About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

72 Hour Visa

I want to visit my daughter in South Korea. Flights from the US are less expensive by flying directly to Beijing and then taking a different flight to South Korea. Is this allowed?

In addition, we would like to fly to Beijing and stay 2 days and then take another flight to South Korea. Would this be allowed? We will also be traveling with a child and want to make sure everything is allowable.

Yes, this is perfectly allowed. As already explained, your itinerary:

US - Beijing - South Korea

Is perfectly eligible for 144 hour visa free transit and you don't need any kind of visa. Also, you are definitely allowed to stay for 2 days in Beijing and you are also allowed to use separate tickets and unrelated airlines. In reality, you are allowed to stay and explore Beijing area for 6 days visa free.

A child is also eligible for exactly the same 144 hour visa free transit in entire Beijing area. You will just print out your flight tickets and your accommodation booking confirmation for your stay in Beijing.
