About:Shanghai 15-day Visa-free Policy for Cruise Tour Groups

Shanghai cruise departure and visit for a few days after cruise

Hello,
I am confused about Visa requirements. I am looking into flying into Shanghai to embark a cruise to Japan and then disembarking in Shanghai. I would like to arrange for touring cultural sites, visiting museums, and will require lodging for up to a week in Shanghai before returning to the USA. I will be traveling solo. Please advise.

You can do the 144 hour (all of day of arrival + 6 full days) visa free transit as long as the flight to the US doesn't transit through Japan or another Chinese City.
