Do I need to apply for China Visa

We are flying to Shanghai to catch the Holland America Cruise Westerdam RT Shanghai. Do I need a visa to fly to Shanghai and go straight to the cruise ship? The ship will overnight in Shanghai then go to Beijing for 2 nights and 3 days using the ship excursions then 1 day Dalian then Korea & Japan and sail back to Shanghai to catch our flight. Can I use the 144 hour & 15 Day Visa Free for Cruise Tour Groups? or do I need a China Visa?

Unfortunately, you need a Chinese tourist (L) visa obtained in advance because to be eligible for 15 day visa free policy, you need to arrive in Shanghai by a cruise and you are arriving by plane. Also, you cannot be eligible for any kind of visa free transit because you will have three consecutive stops in different transit zones of mainland China. The good detail is that US citizens are eligible for 10 year, multiple entry Chinese visa.
