Husband on Z visa, what kind of S visa can wife and children apply for?

I just got my Z visa for China. I'd like to be able to go to China together with my wife and kids. What kind of S visa should we apply for them? Would it be possible for them to get the S1 visa (with my Z visa as supporting document) so that we can all apply for temporary residency once we get there? Or do I need to go to China before them, apply for temporary residency, and when I get the residency permit, have them apply for the S1 in our home country? We'd honestly prefer the former so we can all go to China together.
