Visiting Zhongshan from Hong Kong

Hi, thanks for all the great info.
Question...if i arrive by Ferry from Hong Kong into Zhongshan, how long can I stay without a visa? Im traveling from USA to Singapore. Do I need to fly out of another place other than Hong Kong like Macau? Or can I return back to Hong Kong and fly to Singapore from there?

Octavio, unfortunately, you cannot do that. To be able to visit Zhongshan in the way as you have written, you would need a Chinese visa obtained in advance.

In reality, the only option that you have, beside a visa of course, is the following:

- Take a direct flight from Hong Kong to Guangzhou
- Take a train or bus to Zhongshan
- Take a ferry to Shenzhen Fuyong port
- Take a ferry from Fuyong to Macau
- Take a bus or a ferry from Macau to Hong Kong

As you can see, this itinerary is:

Hong Kong - Guangdong province - Macau - Hong Kong

This itinerary is eligible for 144 hour visa free transit, but you will have to book a ferry from Fuyong to Macau in advance and have an e-confirmation with you as a proof of visa free transit.

This is complicated, but I wanted to present you an option that you can use to reach Zhongshan visa free. The alternative is to obtain a Chinese visa in advance, the best when you are at home because US citizens are eligible for 10 year multiple entry Chinese visa.
