About:Visiting the Mutianyu Great Wall: Toboggan, Cable Car, or Chairlift?

Getting up to the wall, along and then back down (with a family)

What is the price to take the cable car up to tower 14, then hike along the wall & take the toboggan back down from tower 6 - does this count as a "return" trip for the toboggan price? I have 2 teenage children so as long as the hike from 14 to 6 isn't too long I think this way would be the best way to enjoy the wall for the whole family. How long is the hike from 14 to 6? Does this sound like a good option for a family, what would you recommend?

Yes, you are right. It is a suitable way for your family. Generally speaking, it takes around an hour from Tower 14 to Tower 6.

When I visited in 2015 I did the round trip you have proposed. I took the cable car up, walked along the wall and then took the toboggan back down.

I would say that it takes a good hour to walk that section of wall, it may not look that far but it not easy terrain. The path is very uneven and the steps up and down at each tower can be quite big, so it feels like a bit of a climb. Sensible shoes are a must! If you have younger children or stop often to take photographs it will probably take a bit longer. There is little in terms of refreshments between the two towers so make sure you take water with you.

The company that runs the cable car is separate from the one that runs the chairlift/toboggan so you can’t do this tour as a round trip ticket. I purchased a single cable car ticket and then when I got to the toboggan station purchased a separate ticket there. The lower cable car station and the toboggan end point are close to the same car park/bus stops so no need to worry about transferring back.
