About:China Student Visa

I have had a valid Q2 (M) visa, duration of each stay is 180 days, Do I still need a X1?

I am attending ECNU in Shanghai to study from February 23, 2020 - August 25, 2020. I have had a valid Q2 (multiple entry VISA) for 10 years. I am wondering if I still need to apply for an X1 visa in order to stay in China for this duration.

Yes, you need to apply for a student visa for the study in China, but you just need to apply for an X2 visa, not an X1.
