Your son is perfectly eligible for both 144 and 24 hours visa free transit and he doesn't need any kind of visa. To be precise, he will be eligible for 144 hour visa free transit during his stop in Beijing because his entire transit time will be longer than 24 hours and for 24 hour visa free transit during his stop in Shanghai because his entire transit time will be less than 24 hours. In both cases, he doesn't need any kind of visa.

As far as his stamps are concerned, it is the most important how he will answer if asked about them. I suggest that he answers that he traveled to Turkey (and Morocco) as a tourist for his holiday to enjoy the see, food and warm climate, but he can also add a nature and a shopping. He should not say that he was there because of the culture, education, politics, humanitarian or religious purposes and, of course, he has not there any friends, relatives and similar. If he answers like this, the stamps in his passport will present no problem at all.
