You can apply for it in the CVASC in your residence area. You will need to submit your passport, application form, recent photo, and an admission letter from a school in China.

I just went to a company in China as an intern and did not get the admission letter from the Chinese school. I'm from the university of Edinburgh

In this case, you can't apply for an X2 visa, maybe you should apply for an M visa. The company needs to provide you with an invitation letter.
