About:Policy for Foreigners with Immediate Family Living in China

My first time getting a visa for China

We live in the USA and my fiancé(24) is going to China to be a English instructor for 12 months or more if he likes he could work longer then that, his job is giving him a work visa so he is fine but since I (22)plan on going with him I need a visa too I have tried calling to ask about what visa I could get that would work for me and they tried helping me by giving me the embassy's number but I was unable to get a hold of anyone. I was told the max I could get was 60 day multi visa so I would have to fly out of the country 12 times in a year which is expensive. If he applied to be a citizen of China then could I get the visa for being his family and come in that way could I stay in the country longer? If he does take the job he would leave sometime in 2020. Or is there another visa I could apply for that would for me? I will keep trying the number for the embassy. Thank you for your help I appreciate it!

Maria, first of all, as you are not married, you can't apply for a long term visa based on your fiance's visa. You will have to apply for a tourist visa or business visa, which may require you to fly out regularly. Second, it is very hard for your fiance t become a citizen of China as China has strict rules on this point.

I'm afraid you can't get such long stay durations on a tourist visa.

I have a 60-day multiple China visa valid for 9+ years in my passport (issued in Canada). As it is valid for only 60 days in China, then I must exit China and return (for an additional 60 day permit). No problem. Walk across border to Hong Kong (SAR), and then walk immediately back to China. You have officially exited the PRC and returned again. Hong Kong retains its own special status separate from China (SAR). In summary, you have departed China. You do not need to fly away.....
