foreign passport for bullet train from hongkong to china guangzhou

Hello I am looking to purchase three bullet train tickets with only Canadian passport from Hongkong to perhaps Guangzhou. Is this something that can be done by foreigners? I was under the assumption that only those with mainland IDs can purchase the bullet train? All three of us (2 adults and 1 child under 2) have a valid Chinese visa.
