About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Is this going to work, or cut too close?

I have a flight coming in from the U.S. into Beijing with a scheduled landing time of 6:15pm on June 19th. I plan on departing from Beijing to Thailand on June 22nd with a scheduled departure time of 5:45pm. I have ready so many different things:

72 hours starts after midnight
Or
72 hours from scheduled landing time
Or
72 hours from actual landing time
Or
72 hours from when you go thru immigration

I’m just concerned that I am overlooking something, and need to make sure I am doing everything correctly. What if my outbound flight gets delayed? Do they drag us off the plane? Theoretically based on arrival/departure time, we are there for only 71.5 hours. Advice please. Thank you.

72 hours transit without visa was replaced by 144 hours several years ago. The time starts from 00:01 on the day following the day of entry. It has never been anything at all to do with landing time or the time you pass immigration. It is only scheduled arrival time and scheduled departure time that are relevant.

I thought flying in/out of PEK, you can only get a 72 hour visa, NOT 144?

As mentioned by Saul, 72 hours visa free transit (not a visa because there is no visa at all) in Beijing is a history. Now, there is 144 hours visa free transit. Please, use correct terminology to avoid any possible misunderstandings.
