SFO-CCU: Layover in Qingdao 1h35m and Kunming 23h5m

Hi, I’m traveling from SFO-CCU via Kunming on Dec 7th with China eastern flight MU768. I have an official layover at Kunming for 23h05m from 12:10am on 12/09/19 to 11:15pm on 12/09/19. But before Kunming, there is another unofficial stop for 1h35m at Qingdao airport from 6:20pm to 7:55pm on 9th where I do not need to change flight. My concern is do I need transit visa in that case or 24h transit visa exemption rule applies in this situation. Can anyone please help with that? Thanks a lot for your response in advance.

Actually, your entire transit time in China, calculated from your first landing, in your case in Qingdao, until your final departure from China, in your case from Kunming, is longer than 24 hours and consequently you need a visa to perform your journey.

You are advised to apply for a Chinese tourist (L) visa literally on Monday to get your visa until Friday, but you will have to tell to the agency or consulate that the last day when you can collect your passport with a visa inside is Friday. The only good detail in the entire story is that US citizens are eligible for 10 year multiple entry visa, so if you intend to travel to China or through China within the next 10 years, you will be able to do that with absolute peace of mind.

In case, if you are an Indian or the citizen of some other country, you will have to obtain a transit (G) visa.
