About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

I am a Canadian citizen travelling from Canada to Karachi, Pakistan. I have 22hrs transit at Beijing (PEK) airport.
1- Do I need a transit visa before arrival.
2 - Do I need transit visa to go out of airport or Can I go out of airport without transit visa?
3 - What is the visa fee if I have to out of airport?

First of all, your itinerary is eligible for 24 hour visa free transit and you don't need any kind of visa.

1 - No, you don't need any kind of visa. You will print out your flight tickets and have those printouts with you. Also, you will declare at check-in in Canada that you will travel to Karachi via Beijing using 24 hour visa free transit.
2 - Well, all those who plan to leave the airport will apply for a temporary entry permit upon landing at 24 hour visa free transit and the issuing itself always depends upon discretion of immigration authorities. Honestly speaking, since you are traveling to Pakistan, your chances to be granted a temporary entry permit are questionable. They would increase if you book an accommodation before your arrival and present a confirmation of your accommodation. Of course, a transit visa obtained in advance would secure you an exit from the airport. As you can see, now you are in dilemma what to do. I understand and since you know your situation, now it's up to you to decide.
