You definitely don't need any kind of visa because your itinerary is definitely eligible for 24 hour visa free transit.
You will print out your flight tickets and have those printouts with you. Also, you will declare at check-in in Toronto that you will travel to Kathmandu via China using 24 hour visa free transit. After a short inspection of your tickets, you will be allowed to board the plane. Here you should ask whether your luggage will be tagged all the way to Kathmandu. I assume that it will, but you should ask just for a case.
Upon your arrival in Beijing, you will first approach 24 hour visa free transit counter where you will apply for a temporary entry permit. This is essential because this permit will allow you to proceed on the next segment of your itinerary and it will be a domestic flight.
Basically, this is it.
