About:Hainan 30-Day Visa-Free Access

Australians travelling to Riyue bay Hainan

Hello, myself and my daughter are travelling from Australia to Hainan for a surf contest (from the 4th January to 13th January 2020) and we need to know how to organised our Visa. We are not going anywhere else in China other than Hainan Island. We fly into Hong Kong and then 3 hours later get our connecting flight to Sanya airport. I have booked our return flights and accomodation. What do we do now? Do we obtain a Visa On Arrival at Sanya? Or do we need to email all our trip details to a travel agent in Hainan to organise the 30 day Visa Free? What is the best and easiest way to get our entry into Hainan?
Regards
Sue

Part one:

Sue, I have perfectly understood your questions and I also understand your dilemma, since you are traveling through Hong Kong. So far, Hong Kong airport staff, well informed and well trained was allowing and continue to allow boarding of passengers traveling to Hainan based on their statement that they will rely (obtain) a Hainan VOA upon arrival in Sanya or Haikou. Anyway, having in mind that you are arriving from Australia and also having in mind that you have enough time before your departure, I would suggest you to play totally safe and to rely on Hainan 30 day visa free access.

Here are the steps you will have to accomplish before your departure and you are advised to start the correpsondence as soon as possible to accomplish your visa free entrance to Hainan well before your departure:

- You are supposed to determine how many days you will spend in Hainan province
- You should also take care of your flight tickets and here one warning... You are not allowed to arrive to Hainan by taking a flight through some other mainland Chinese airport. The best option is Hong Kong, but keep in mind that this flight has to be nonstop and not again through some of mainland Chinese airports. Also, you are not allowed to leave Hainan on a flight that has a stop in mainland China, immediately after you leave Hainan island.

Part two:

- After you have determined the above mentioned, you will write down your short itinerary in English language that will have most of your details that you will do while in Hainan, but very shortly.
- You will contact a relevant agency that supports a correspondence in English language, like: Hainan Kangtai Travel, Hainan Haoyang International Travel Agent, China Travel International Sanyaco, Hainan Classic Holiday Travel Agent.
- Keep in mind that during your correspondence you will be offered several services and you are supposed to accept one or more of them according to your preferences. The mentioned offers range from an airport transfer to multi day trips.

As you can see, this procedure will ensure you that you will be allowed to board the plane, to enter Hainan and to enjoy your time there without the need to obtain a visa. This procedure could appear to be somewhat complicated, but in reality it is not because the agency is doing its part very fast and everything is done within 3 or 4 working days and when everything is done, the agency will send you an invitation that will undeniably allow you to enter Hainan visa free.

Here you will have to bargain if necessary because the agencies always want to sell as much as possible of their services and you want to limit that. Keep in mind to be firm in your position and to accept only those services that will really be of some value for you and your daughter and your overall itinerary on Hainan island.

It is bilingual, Chinese and English. Otherwise, it would be useless because what would the airport staff in a non Chinese speaking country do with it, if they don't understand it.
