Can I bring hardwood blanks into China (for use in woodcarving)?

My host is a carver and I want to bring common American hardwood blanks (already smooth cut, such as walnut, cherry, maple, basswood) into China as a gift. Pieces are about the size of bricks. Any issues?

As I know, you don't bring them too much. Generally speaking, it won't have any problem. In addition, you can put them into the checked luggage.
