About:Chinese Embassy in South Africa

I am a Zimbabwean passport holder based at a British overseas territory and want a Chinese visa

We do not have any embassy here on the Island and the nearest embassy will be south Africa as l will be coming down there for a brief visit. Can I apply for a China visa in South Africa without a residence permit there?
