Guangzhou transit 36 hours

Can I fly from Manila in the Philippines then approx 36 hours later depart for Hong Kong via train or taxi to the border?

You need a visa for a taxi or for high speed rail. In theory you can depart by other trains, but the problem is that you must have your confirmed train ticket in your hand when you check in for your flight to China.
