About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Transit Visa

Hi, I am holding a Cambodian passport, and I am traveling from Vienna to Phnom Penh. I will have an 8-hour layover at Beijing International Airport, and I am planning to take the time to discover a little bit of Beijing. Am I required to apply for a visa ahead of time or am I eligible for the 24-hour visa-free transit?

My flight from Vienna to Beijing is via Austrian Airlines, but my flight from Beijing to Phnom Penh is via Air China. Do you know if I would have to go through immigration, pick up my luggages, and re-check-in at Beijing for my second flight or will my luggage go through to my final destination?

Thank you in advance.

Your itinerary is definitely eligible for 24 hour visa free transit and you don't need any kind of visa.

Regarding your question about the luggage, I assume that you have bough a single ticket and if I'm right, your luggage will be tagged all the way to Phnom Penh. Anyway, to be completely certain about this detail, you will ask this a check-in in Austria where they will reconfirm this detail.

You should also print out your flight tickets and have those printouts with you. You will also declare at check-in in Austria that you will travel to Phnom Penh via Beijing using 24 hour visa free transit.

Upon your landing in Beijing, you will apply for a temporary entry permit at 24 hour visa free transit counter to be allowed to exit the airport. Anyway, you should be aware that the issuing of a temporary entry permit is always upon discretion of immigration authorities on a day of your arrival.
