About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

24-hour TWOV when changing airlines

I will be travelling from Dresden Germany to Manila Philippines, with a 20-hour layover in Shanghai in between. My flight from Dresden to Shanghai will be via Swiss Air, while my flight from Shanghai to Manila will be via AirAsia. Thus, I will have to get my luggage, and do self-check-in for my next flight to Manila. I am also planning to go out of the airport while waiting for my Manila-bound flight for sightseeing .

Will the 24-hour TWOV work for me? I am Philippine passport holder by the way.

You should be allowed to leave the airport as Swiss and Air Asia are out of different terminals and luggage is not checked through. Just to be safe print out a copy of your hotel reservation and you should be fine.

Your itinerary is definitely eligible for 24 hour visa free transit and you don't need any kind of visa. You will print out your tickets and have the printouts with you. You will declare in Switzerland that you will travel to Philippines via Shanghai using 24 hour visa free transit. You will present your tickets and shortly after, you will be allowed to board the plane.

Upon your arrival in Shanghai, you will approach 24 hour visa free transit counter where you will apply for a temporary entry permit. You will again present your tickets and after that you will be definitely granted a temporary entry permit because you will have to collect your luggage and perform a recheck. You are also advised to book your accommodation in advance and to have a confirmation (a printout) for that. You will be allowed to exit the airport, to use your accommodation and to explore the city.
