About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Not Clear about Return Flight

We are traveling Atlanta (ATL) to Shanghai (PVG) staying 2 nights in PVG with 144 hour visa then on to Phuket (HKT).

My question is in regards to our return to ATL. Will we need to get another 144 hour visa and stay at least one night in PVG in order to fly to ATL via PVG?

Under 24 hour transit is allowed, the only difference is the entry permit to leave the airport is not guaranteed if stop is under 24 hours. You may have to stay inside the airport if you are not staying overnight in a hotel. Proof of hotel reservation would be needed.
