About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

What are my odds of getting approved?

3 travelers from the US Traveling from Bangkok to USA (LA.). We will notify China Southern in Bangkok and have passports valid > 6 months with proof of ticket to United States within 18 hours of landing in China. Is there anything else we need to consider?

You will be definitely allowed to travel on 24 hour visa free transit and you don't need any kind of visa. You can take this as granted. You will print out your flight tickets and also you will declare at check-in in Thailand that you will travel to US via China using 24 hour visa free transit. After a short inspection, you will be allowed to board the plane.

Assuming that you will travel on a single (through) ticket all the way to US and also assuming that you will have your connection in Guangzhou, you have to be aware that Guangzhou airport has recently introduced the policy of not granting a temporary entry permit (to be allowed to exit the airport) to the passengers traveling on a single ticket and having international to international connection in Guangzhou. If my assumptions are correct, you will not be allowed to exit the airport and you will have to find a suitable way to kill your time at the airport.

Anyway, you can always try to apply for a temporary entry permit at 24 hour visa free transit counter since this is completely free of charge and to see if there will be some mercy because of your really long layover.
