About:Hainan 30-Day Visa-Free Access

If I have a Chinese Tourist (L) visa do I need an additional visa to visit Hainan?

Hi, I am traveling to Sanya via Hong Kong, but will be spending a few days in Beijing at the end of the trip. Because of the days in Beijing I have already obtained a tourist (L) visa. Do I need to apply for a second visa to visit Hainan, or will the tourist visa be sufficient? I have an American passport but will be traveling from New Zealand.

Your Chinese tourist (L) visa in, I assume, New Zealand passport will be perfectly enough for your travel to the entire mainland China, including Hainan. In reality, when you travel to Hainan on a valid visa, you don't need to do any interaction with a tourist agency at all. You will come to Hainan when you want to and you will stay there as long as you wish. Of course, you are perfectly allowed to return on a domestic flight to the rest of mainland China.

By the way, if my assumption that a visa is in your New Zealand passport is correct, please keep in mind that you have to use only this passport for your entire travel to, within and from China.

OK, my assumption was wrong :(

Never mind, you are perfectly allowed to use your US passport for your planned trip :)
