Do we need an allocated seat to apply for the 72 hour travel without visa in Beijing?

Hi we are travelling from Sydney and planning on applying for the 72 hour travel without visa permit in Beijing we have confirmed flights to Munich but won’t have seat allocations until check in 23 hours before we fly. Do we need to have actual seat allocations to apply or confirmed flights are enough.

There is 144 hours transit without visa at Beijing now. You don't need a boarding pass or seat allocation. Just the confirmed ticket showing the ticket number.
