About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

SYD>HKG>PEK>HKG>SYD

Hi, I need to visit Beijing for a last minute business trip. The cheapest and best service flights are Sydney to Beijing with a transit stop in Hong Kong. Then Departing Beijing to Hong Kong then Hong Kong to Sydney. Will I be eligible for the 144 hours visa on arrival at Beijing, or will the transit in HKG mean I’m ineligible?

You are ineligible because Hong Kong-Beijing-Hong Kong is not a transit. Your stops immediately before and immediately after China must be in different countries.
