About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

72 hour visa free transit.

This is the best site I have found for my question.
Aussie citizen arriving in Shanghai by sea, overnight stay but leaving by air 30 hours later.
Other queries I have read are all about arrival by air.
Am I still eligible for free visa?

Thank you. Although we will be in HK on the way, our last port before Shanghai is to be Hakata Japan.
I have not been able to get this info from the Visa centre in Brisbane.
The money saved will be wisely spent on our holiday -not on visas.
In appreciation, Keith White.

Yes, you are eligible for 144 hour visa free transit, but your itinerary has to fulfill the following conditions:

- Your cruise is not allowed to have its last port of call, immediately before Shanghai, in mainland China port
- Your flight from Shanghai out of China is not allowed to have any additional landing of any kind within mainland China and in the country where your cruise had its last port of call, immediately before Shanghai.

If the above conditions are fulfilled, then you are definitely eligible for 144 hour visa free transit in Shanghai area.

By the way, 72 hour visa free transit has been replaced by 144 hour visa free transit in Shanghai a couple of years ago.
