No visa at all? Should I still need to go the the 72/144 hours office when I land in Beijing?
I read they apply a sticker on your passport after having checked your departure flight is booked.
Thanks,

The sticker you get in your passport is not a visa.

Yes, you are eligible for 144 hour visa free transit in Beijing, but you are not allowed to return to Italy via Hong Kong.

By the way, this is not 144 hour visa, but 144 hour visa free transit. There is no visa at all.

Indeed, there are no visas at all. Anyway, you will have to approach 144 hour visa free counter (72 hour visa free transit has been replaced in Beijing by 144 hour visa free transit a couple of years ago) upon your landing in Beijing. There you will just fill out the blue form and together with the yellow form (arrival/departure card) that you will receive on board of the plane, you will also present your flight tickets that you should have in hard copy (in reality a printouts of your e-tickets). After a short inspection, you will get a sticker in your passport and you will be allowed to exit the airport. There is no charge for this and you don't need a photo.

Keep in mind that you will declare in Hong Kong, at check-in, that you will travel to Italy via Beijing using 144 hour visa free transit. That's it.
