About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Do we need a visa or is the transit visa enough?

Me and my girlfriend got a flight ticket to Bangkok for the 31st of October. We fly from Vancouver and have 2 layovers in China, one in Nanjing (1.5 hour) and one in Kunming (21 hour). We fly with China Eastern Airlines and today we went to their office where they told us we need a real visa from the VAC here in Vancouver because we stay longer than 24 hour total in China. We both are citizen from qualifying countries for the 72 hour transit visa. Do we need to get a visa at the VAC in Toronto or is it safe for us to get the 72 hour transit visa in Nanjing as stated here on the website?

Thank you!

Maybe good to mention as well, for some reason our flight itinerary doesn't mention our layover in Nanjing, this has been told to us at the office of China eastern the day after we booked the flight. So we didn't even know about Nanjing layover until a hour ago. nothing was mention on the website where we booked the ticket.

You need a visa. Two stops in China automatically limits you to 24 hours transit without visa in China, from scheduled arrival at the first stop to scheduled departure from the second.
