Joy, assuming that you are a French citizen, you are allowed to do that, but both of us know that there are no direct flights from New Caledonia to Guangzhou, so you will have to have an additional layover somewhere. This is also OK, but you should take care that Guangzhou remains your only point within mainland China, i.e. you are not allowed to have any additional landing of any kind within mainland China. For example, you are allowed to have an itinerary of this kind:
Nouméa - Osaka - Guangzhou - Auckland
but not:
Nouméa - Osaka - Shanghai - Guangzhou - Auckland
If you use an eligible itinerary, you will be eligible for 144 hour visa free transit in entire Guangdong province. 72 hour visa free transit has been replaced in Guangdong province by 144 hour visa free transit in May of this year.
