You are qualified for 24 or 144 hour visa free transit in Shanghai area in case if your cruise fulfills the following conditions:

- Your last port of call, immediately before Shanghai, is not allowed to be in mainland China port
- Your first port of call, immediately after Shanghai, is not allowed to be in mainland China port and in the port of the country or territory where your cruise had its last port of call, immediately before Shanghai

To clarify... These are eligible itineraries:

Vietnam - Shanghai - South Korea
Hong Kong - Shanghai - Japan
Philippines - Shanghai - Taiwan

As you can see there has to be a pattern A - B - C. B is always mainland China and A and B are countries and eligible territories: Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau

Non eligible itineraries:

Xiamen - Shanghai - Sout Korea ...... Not eligible because it is not allowed to have two mainland Chinese ports of call in a row

South Korea - Shanghai - South Korea ....... Not eligible because there is no country or territory C

Now, you can check your itinerary and if something is still unclear, just write it here :)
