About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Do I qualify for a 72 or 144 (TWOV) FREE TRANSIT VISA?

Hi, I am cruising into Tianjin, then on a tour to and from the cruise ship to Beijing and returning to the ship (06:00.- 22:00) BUT....then sailing to Shanghai with two days sailing between the ports of call. I would be disembarking in Shanghai (08:00 returning 20:30) That is a total number of hours on Chinese mainland of 34 hours. I am obviously not exiting through an airport but through the ships terminal, and from my understanding I cannot apply on arrival at either port as I am returning to a ship and not an airport. Does this mean I do not qualify for a TWOV and need a full visa? I am sailing from Sydney Australia on to Hong Kong. I am a British citizen. Your help and advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

You are stopping in both the Beijing and Shanghai areas. These two stops immediately limits you to 24 hours transit without visa and 144 hours TWOV does not apply. You must get a visa in advance of travel.

Thank you so much for your advice. Very confusing when it seems it can be done with a TWOV if I were flying between cities. Anyway, thank you, I’m clear now.
