About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Going from Hong Kong to Shanghai then Shanghai to London but routed via HK

Hi, I am coming from Hong Kong to Shanghai. I will spend less than 144 hours there before flying back to London. My flight back to London is routed by Cathay via Hong Kong when I have only a 50 minute stop to change planes. Would I qualify for the 144 hour visa? I am a UK citizen. Thanks, Tom

That's not transiting in Shanghai and you do not qualify.

Well, the layover on your way back makes you ineligible for the 144h visa-free transit.
