About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

I arrive in shanhai at 11am and leave on delta at 7pm to LA. How do I apply for a 24 hour free visa? Do I need to apply for a visa and if so how do I do that.

Thank you so much. Ill be flying from Phuket Thailand into China for my flight to the states.

Cindy, you didn't mention where do you come from to Shanghai and that is very important detail. OK, I will assume that you will arrive to Shanghai by a direct flight from a third country. If I'm right, then you are eligible for 24 hour visa free transit in Shanghai. The procedure is quite simple... You will declare at check-in in the country from where you will fly to Shanghai that you will travel to LA via Shanghai using 24 hour visa free transit. If you travel on a single (through) ticket, you will just remain in the transit area, but if you fly on separate tickets, then you will apply for a temporary entry permit upon your landing in Shanghai. There is a visible counter and you will approach it, fill out the form and present your onward ticket for LA. For that reason, you should have your flight tickets in hard copy (simple printouts). After a short inspection, you will be allowed to exit the airport and to perform your new check-in. This is all absolutely free of charge.

This is fine, but you should be aware that your flight from Phuket to Shanghai has to be non-stop!
