Entry from Baoshan - Exiting Shanghai Airport - American

Hi I am an American arriving on a cruise ship at the Baoshan Port and leaving Shanghai the same day. Does the 144 hour exemption apply to me?

Carol, you are eligible for visa free transit in principle. Also, you will be probably eligible for 24 hour visa free transit because I assume that your entire transit time in Shanghai will be less than 24 hours since you are arriving and departing to/from Shanghai during the same day. In reality, this is just fine and your status is the same as it would be under 144 hour visa free transit. Anyway, to be definitely eligible for visa free transit, your flight from Shanghai has to be a nonstop one to a third country different than both mainland China and South Korea.
