About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Visa

Hi there!

I'm planning on flying from New Zealand to Guangzhou (but via a transit flight in Hong Kong) and staying a few days before leaving for Thailand - would I still qualify for the TWOV, as I'm arriving in Guangzhou from HK? Or do I have to take a direct flight from NZ to Guangzhou to qualify? Thanks!

Your itinerary is perfectly eligible for 144 hour visa free transit in Guangdong province. Using a flight from Hong Kong to Guangzhou is definitely allowed because Hong Kong is considered as a third country for visa free transit purposes. One detail only... You are not allowed to travel to Thailand by using a flight to Hong Kong again, but you have to travel to Thailand by nonstop flight from Guangzhou.
