About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

what visa would we require

We arrive in china and stay overnight and join a cruise which goes to japan then returns to shanghai
And we leave the ship for the airport and fly home

Do you arrive from the UK in Shanghai?
If so you don't need a visa as you're fine for the 144h twov.
