Single or Multiple entry for Cruise Ship Passengers?

We are travelling on a cruise in December this year (2019) that calls at 2 ports in China.
Will we require a multiple entry visa or will the single entry suffice?
The ports encompass a period of 3 days.
We hold Australian and NZ passports respectively.

Does the cruise ship sail out of China between the two ports involved? If yes, you need double entries. If not, you need a single entry.

Judy,
It is a ship sailing between the 2 ports I mentioned. Does it leave Chinese waters? I don't know.
But it must leave the Chinese mainland to be able to travel between the 2 ports.
I have also been informed of a 72hr visa that may suffice that can be issued quickly before we arrive in China. Any comments?

IF it's within Chinese waters, you are fine to have only a single entry visa. 72hr visa-free transit is only applicable to those with stopover in one mainland city in China.
