About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Failure to register with the local police?

Hi, I stayed in China for 1 night a few months ago with the 24-hour visa-free exemption policy, and got a sticker in my passport allowing me to stay in Beijing until the next day. Here is my concern: upon checking out of my hotel the next morning, the reception told me they had no idea what I meant when I asked if they were going to register my presence in China with the local police, as I had heard this was standard procedure for people staying in China. So I'm assuming they didn't do any kind of paperwork, and I didn't have time to stop by the police station myself before heading back to the airport.

Will this cause a problem the next time I try to visit China? I have heard of people blocked from entering China after they were found to have failed to register their stay in China previously, but I also stayed for less than 24 hours and am hoping that there's some kind of exception for people who ventured outwards for such a short period of time. Because I'm thinking that some people who get the 24-hour visa-free travel sticker might not find accommodations at all and just explore instead during their time outside the airport. Please advise me on what to do if I have inadvertently broken a Chinese law, and how I would go about trying to resolve this. Thank you.

The hotel is responsible to register you.
If you have any proof of your stay, I would take it with me the next time.
But I'm sure the hotel registered you and it was just a communication problem.

Its done during check-in. If you were there under 24 hours no need to worry about it.
