About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Pre-notification form doesn't list Hong Kong as a destination / "to" country

Hello,
I have filled in the official pre-travel application for visa exemption form for Shanghai. The form requires one to list the country from which one will arrive in mainland China (no problem) as well as the country to which one will depart. Alas, the drop-down menu does NOT include the possibility of listing Hong Kong (or any special administrative region). My departure flight is from Shanghai to HK and then onwards to Europe. Does this mean that Hong Kong cannot be on my ticket? I'm travelling from Ireland via France to Shanghai and then from Shanghai via HK to Ireland. Thank you!

This means that you should give up using this pre-travel application. This application just confuses people and is very often down. To conclude, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau are definitely eligible territories for 144 hour visa free transit, but you are advised to do everything manually, upon your arrival in China like most of the travelers do. Just be relaxed, your itinerary is fine and you will do everything necessary right when you approach 144 hour TWOV counter in Shanghai.
