About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Arriving Shanghai on October 24th and leaving on a cruise ship on October 26th.

Do I need a visa for this? Am I covered under the 72-hour visa-free transit?

Linda, you didn't mention where do you come from to Shanghai and also where your cruise will depart to! OK, I will assume that you are arriving from US and from Shanghai to a third country. To be certain here are the conditions your flight/cruise itinerary has to fulfill:

- You flight from US to Shanghai should not have any additional landing within mainland China and in the country where your cruise will have its first port of call, immediately after Shanghai
- Your cruise is not allowed to have its first port of call, immediately after Shanghai, in mainland China

So, if the above mentioned conditions are fulfilled, you are eligible for 144 hour visa free transit in Shanghai. Please, keep in mind that 72 hour visa free transit was replaced by 144 hour visa free transit in Shanghai a couple of years ago.
