About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Visa free

Hey, first of all thanks a lot for answering all questions here. My situation is as follows:

I am in Bangkok now and have the following travel plan:

22nd Sep Bangkok - Shanghai (ticket 1)
24th Sep Shanghai - Hong Kong (ticket 2)
25th Sep Hong Kong - Shanghai (ticket 3)
26th Sep Shanghai - Manila (ticket 4)

The Hong Kong trip was added due to a friend anniversary.

Questions:
1) Being German, can I make use of the visa exemption for my short layovers in Shanghai?
2) Do I or the airline need to do anything to inform immigration before the trip?

Thanks

Answers:

1) As a German citizen, you are perfectly allowed to enjoy visa free transit because its is definitely eligible itinerary. You will be eligible for the first arrival in Shanghai for 144 hour visa free transit and for the second arrival 24 or 144 hour visa free transit in relation to the length of your stay in Shanghai. Also, your separate (single) tickets are perfectly fine.

2) You don't need to inform anybody before your trip. The first time when you will mention this will be at your check-in in Bangkok where you will declare that you will travel to Hong Kong via Shanghai using 144 hour visa free transit. The same thing in Hong Kong before your departure toward Shanghai, but then you will say that you will travel to Manila via Shanghai.
