About:Overstaying in China & Penalty

Help! I have a friend who lost his wallet while in china.

Visa expired in june. He has no place to stay. What should he do? How can I help him? Thanks

He should go to his country's embassy or consulate for a new passport or travel document, then go to the Exit and Entry Administration for an exit visa after the 10k CNY fine. However depending on the situation he may be detained for no more than 15 days as well. Make sure he registers with the country's consular service while replacing his travel document to minimize risk of mistreatment.
