About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Hello, I land in Chengdu(on sep 29) for a 8 hour layover on my way to shanghai(Land sep 30). Im going on a royal Caribbean cruise to japan on oct 1. So ill be in shanghai for 1 day. I see that the 24 hour visa doesnt start until the following day after you land which would be on the 30th. Does the 24 hour transit work for this?

LAX(sept 28)-Chengdu(sept29)-Shangahi(sep 30)-Cruise(oct1).

The 24 hours is counted from scheduled arrival to scheduled departure times in China, not starting the following day. Therefore you need a visa in advance or different flights.
