About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

72 Hour Transit Visa

I am flying from London (a UK citizen) into Shanghai and then on to Tianjin before joining a cruise ship as a Crew Member.
Am I eligible for a 72 hour transit visa? Thank you.

No, unfortunately, you are not allowed to use any kind of visa free transit option because you will not be a passenger, but a crew member on the ship. In other words, you will not be in a possession of a cruise ticket, but you will have a contract with the cruise company and this is not eligible for a visa free transit scheme. You will require a crew (C) visa to travel to Shanghai and to board the ship. You have to press your future employer to perform all or at least a lion's share of the necessary formalities for your visa.
