About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

144h transit visa feasibility for non-direct flights departing shanghai

Hello, I will be departing Incheon, South Korea and arriving in Shanghai on 21st Sept. I will be departing on 27th Sept from Shanghai to Rome via Beijing (2 hour layover - connecting flight, do not need to pass immigration). Am i eligible for the 144 transit visa even though I am connecting through Beijing on my departure? Thanks

Unfortunately, your itinerary is not eligible for any kind of visa free transit scheme. Simply speaking, you are not allowed to have two consecutive stops within mainland China and remain eligible for 144 hour visa free transit. Only 24 hour visa free transit allows multiple consecutive stops, but this is another story. In short, you will have to obtain a Chinese tourist (L) visa or rearrange your flights to fit the rules for 144 hour visa free transit scheme.
