Continued Question from Bobby

TY for your response. :)

We are USA NY citizens.
Itinerary might be,
JFK-PVG-MEL roundtrip.
1) How long is a temporary entry permit?
2) Where and when do we get it?
- if it is at the airport then what happens if we are denied at the last minute?
3) Are we stuck in airport til our next part of the trip?
4) We are thinking of stay for 4 days in Shanghai. BUT if it is too complicated then we will not leave the airport and just pass thru to MEL.

Just make sure its a single connection in Shanghai and over 24 hours and you will not have to worry about leaving the airport. The denials to leave the airport are short stays under 24 hours primarily without hotel. They won't make you stay in the airport for a 4 day stay. Just look for signs that talk about the 144 hour visa exemption, they are in English. I believe they are blue kiosks now or its a blue card but either way, over 24 hours is not a problem.
