About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

French citizens flying from France to Singapore and from Malaysia to Beijing and back to France

We're planning to spend 4to 5 nights in Beijing in Novembre. Do we qualify for a 144 hours free visa?
If so, Can we go to shanghai for a night ?

You need to fly non stop to a third country to be allowed 144 hours in Beijing. You cannot travel to/through any area outside of Beijing, Tianjin or Hebei province. You will need a tourist visa in advance if you wish to travel through Shanghai.
