About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Traveling from Barcelona to Taiwan

Heyy guys!

I had a quick question for you. I'm from Guatemala and I will travel from Barcelona to Taiwan but all the tickets have a layover in Shangai round trip. (3 hours layover)

Will I need a visa to do the layover?

No, you will not. You are allowed to travel, using 24 hour visa free transit, on the route:

Barcelona - Shanghai - Taipei

You are also allowed to have a layover in China long up to 24 hours, so your layover of only 3 hours is just fine. You should print out your flight tickets and you will also declare at your check-in in Barcelona that you will travel to Taipei via Shanghai using 24 hour visa free transit.

To conclude, for this particular itinerary, you don't need any kind of visa.

One more detail... Blanca, you should be aware that a good portion of flights from Shanghai to Taipei depart from Hongqiao airport and you will arrive at Pudong airport. So, be careful with your choice of flights and have in mind that only 3 hours are not enough to make a transfer from Pudong to Hongqiao airport. I hope that your flight to Taipei departs from Pudong airport. Even in this case, you will have to do all the formalities very fast, trust me because 3 hours for a flight change at Pudong airport is quite a short time.
