About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Long transit in China

hey, i took a flight from nepal to france without knowing all about the papers...
i have a first 17hrs stop in Kunming (with my luggage to take, and change of plane), then a technical stop for 50min in Nanchong (without getting out of the plane i think), and i finally have a 3h stop in Shanghai (change of plane) before getting in a flight back to france. i think i should be elligible for a 24hrs visa but the air company told me that if there is un unexpected delay, it could be more than 24hrs.
What kind of visa or permit do i need? And if i need one, is it possible to do it in nepal?
Thank you for helping

As long as your scheduled transit in China is under 24h, you don't need any visa.
If there's a delay it's not your fault and you're stil leligible for the 24h transit.

There is my exact timeline  : arrival at Kunming at 23:05 with a 17hrs break, then from Kunming (at 16:05) to Shanghai (arrival at 21:15), then a 2:50hrs break, and the departure from Shanghai is at 00:05

The total time i’ll spend in China in a plane or in an airport is in fact more than 24hrs.
But the airline « assured » me that i was elligible for the TWOV no matter the duration, because my final destination on the ticket is France. But it’s not what i read everywhere.

Am i elligible for a 144hours transit ? If i understand correctly i cannot get the 72hrs transit because i arrive and leave from 2 differents airports ?
Or do i have to get a transit visa (G) ? I have to get it from france before i go or can i do it from nepal ?
Thanks

Ele, the most important detail is whether your entire transit is less than 24 hours based on SCHEDULED arrivals and departures regardless of delays. In other words, if your entire transit is less than 24 hours, you are eligible for 24 hour visa free transit, but if this same transit is just a minute longer than 24 hours, you will have to apply for a Chinese transit (G) visa.

Based on your post, I assume that you will take a flight MU5438 from Kunming to Shanghai via Nanchong. Also, I assume that you will take a flight MU553 from Shanghai to Paris. If I'm right, I sincerely doubt that your entire transit is less than 24 hours. To calculate your entire time of transit is to count your hours from your first scheduled arrival in China, in your case in Kunming, until your last scheduled departure, in your case from Shanghai. My calculation tells me that your entire transit is well over 24 hours. Please, check your itinerary and we can further discuss every detail.

You are not eligible for any kind of transit without visa, and you must get a visa in advance (or change your flights).
